Careers in psychology consistently rank among the top 20 jobs in Arkansas, with continued double-digit growth predicted through at least 2014. The Arkansas Department of Commerce predicts jobs for psychologists in the state growing fastest in the areas of social services, mental health counseling, and marriage and family therapy.
However, individuals with bachelor’s degrees in psychology are also trained to work in research, law, media, recruiting, and other areas of social science and behavior. In addition to health and human service sector jobs, human resources, industrial organization and market testing are all expanding areas of opportunity in Arkansas in which a graduate with a degree in psychology can find employment.
Arkansas also faces a growing population, a move from a rural based economy to increased urbanization, and health risks due to obesity and substance abuse. The state will have a continuing need for health educators, substance abuse counselors, and human service employees—all competitive positions for psychology graduates working to build their careers.
