As jobs in psychology continue to outpace the national average for job growth (Bureau of Labor Statistics), a bachelor’s degree in psychology is valuable at any level of practice. According to Workforce California, the average lifetime income of a person with a bachelor’s degree is twice that of a person with only a high school diploma.
A bachelor’s in psychology primes potential employees in California for a number of jobs listed by the California Employment Development Department as the state’s fastest growing career fields. Social work, home health, occupational therapy, administration, and data and systems analysis are just a few of these fastest-growing fields that a graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology can be qualified for.
Graduates in psychology are also equipped for work in areas that give back to their fellow citizens. Career counseling, disaster management, and substance abuse counseling are just a few of these types of professions. California recently received nearly $11 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, with much of that money going into agencies that hire and train psychology graduates, including the Youth Policy Institute, Rural Human Services Inc., Inter-City Services, and the Fresno Career Development Institute.
With the skills and knowledge acquired in a bachelor’s program in psychology, graduates are trained for any field that requires working with people, critical thinking and applied research.
