I've already received my Bachelor's or Master's degree...

Utah psychologist licensure requires all candidates to possess a doctoral degree in psychology or a related field. Right now, you should be researching schools offering master's or doctoral programs. Make sure to explore various schooling options before committing to the next 2 or 4 years of your life.

Step One:

Contact schools offering Master's, PhD or PsyD programs you are interested in.

Step Two:

When choosing a Master's or Doctoral program, you will be narrowing your career focus. Since there are a large variety of areas where you can go within the field of psychology, it would be wise to speak with the career services personnel at your school to learn more about various opportunities you may participate in to boost yourself higher on the list of possible applicants for school and/or for a professional position once you have completed your schooling.

I have finished my PhD or PsyD...

Follow the steps to learn how to acquire your Psychologist license in Utah.

Step One:

You will need to complete 4000 hours of supervised work experience over no less than 2 years. Part of the required hours may be earned while working towards your doctoral degree.

Step Two:

Next, you will need to submit a Utah psychologist licensure application to the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. You will need to include all supporting forms, official transcripts (to be sent directly from the educational institution to the DOPL) and required application processing fees.

Step Three:

The Division will mail you written notification of your eligibility to sit for the national Examination for the Professional Practice of Psychology. You will also need to pass the Utah Law and Rule examinations. Information about the EPPP national exam can be found here.
