While a masters degree can secure employment in interesting and growing fields, a PhD in psychology or PsyD can provide you with education and credentials that can unlock many more doors to opportunity. The difference between the two programs can be thought of as the difference between an apprentice's tool box and a master carpenter's tool box. While one is handy, the other is much more effective and versatile.

When entering into a PhD or PsyD program, you will have the ability to shape your learning and career direction toward anywhere you wish to go. Specialize in addiction treatment, family issues, health psychology, or education. You could sculpt your education around becoming an asset to businesses through leadership development or organizational management. With a PhD, you will qualify yourself to be an integral part in program or policy development as well.

PhD in psychology and PsyD programs are great for those individuals who are seeking more autonomy in their career, greater responsibility and greater influence in their field.
