Delaware Marriage and Family Therapist Licensure

Below are basic guidelines for those wishing to earn their marriage and family therapist licensure in Delaware. These procedures rarely change; however, it is wise to contact the Delaware Division of Professional Regulation at (302) 744-4500 to make sure you are on the right track.

Follow these steps to earn your Delaware LMFT License:

Step One:

To earn your Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) license in Delaware, you must first earn your masters or doctorate degree from a Board approved school.

Step Two:

After receiving a masters or doctoral degree, you will need to complete 3200 hours of professional supervision over no more than 4 consecutive years. 1600 of these hours need to be under the direct supervision of a Board approved supervisor.

Step Three:

Once the supervised hour requirements for Delaware Marriage and Family Therapy licensure have been met, you can download and submit a notarized application including all additional necessary forms.

Step Four:

The Board will review your application, and once approved, you will be eligible to take the exam from the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Board. A passing score is a minimum of 70%.

Follow these steps to earn your Delaware LAMFT License:

Step One:

To earn you Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapy (LAMFT) license, you will need to complete a masters degree program.

Request information from schools offering Master's degree programs in MFT and psychology.

Step Two:

Next an LAMFT will need to prepare a written plan to the Board for professional, direct supervision and submit the plan along with the LAMFT licensure application.

Step Three:

The license to practice as a LAMFT is effective for a 2 year period. Once the 2-year period comes to a close, the LAMFT license can be renewed.
