Indiana Marriage and Family Therapist Licensure

Learn how to earn your MFT licensure in Indiana

Below are basic guidelines for those wishing to earn their marriage and family therapist licensure in Indiana. These procedures rarely change; however, it is wise to contact the Indiana Marriage and Family Therapist Board of Professional Licensure at (317)-234-2064 to make sure you are on the right track.

Follow these steps to earn your Indiana MFT License:

Step One:

To receive your license as an Indiana marriage and family therapist, you will need at least a masters degree in marriage and family therapy from an accredited school.

Step Two:

A total of 3 years of supervised clinical experience is required. At least half of the work should be giving marriage and family therapy services in direct client contact. Two of the years, or 1000, hours need to be completed after receiving your degree. All of the experience is required to have a qualified supervisor providing at least 100 hours of direct supervision.

Step Three:

Once you have met these requirements, you will need to download and submit the Indiana Marriage and Family Therapist licensure application to the Board.

Step Four:

After the Board approves your application, they will notifiy you of your eligibility to take the Marriage and family therapist national examination.
