Step Two:
Once the above educational requirements are met, you will need to apply for a conditional licensure. This requires you to first pass the Marital and Family Therapy Examination administered by the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards.
Information about the Maine MFT examination is available on the AMFTRB website.
Step Three:
After passing the exam, you will need to download the Maine Marriage and Family Therapist licensure application and submit it to the Maine Board of Counseling Professionals. Along with the application, you will need to provide a plan as to how you will obtain the necessary supervised work experience.
You may download the application here.
Step Four:
The Board will notify you when you have qualified for your conditional license. After this, you can begin the required supervised work experience. You will need 3000 hours of marriage and family therapy experience over at least 2 years.
More details about the hourly requirements and requirements of qualifying supervisors can be found in the rules section of the following webpage.
Step Five:
You will need to submit another application to the Board for a full licensure once your required work experience is complete.
