Missouri Marriage and Family Therapist Licensure

Below are basic guidelines for those wishing to earn their marriage and family therapist licensure in Missouri. These procedures rarely change; however, it is wise to contact the Missouri Committee of Marital and Family Therapy at (573)-751-0870 to make sure you are on the right track.

Follow these steps to earn your Missouri MFT License:

Step One:

To practice as a licensed marriage and family therapist in Missouri, you will need to complete a masters degree program from an accredited school.

Step Two:

Next, you will need to accumulate 3000 hours of supervised experience practicing marriage and family therapy over a period of at least 2 years. All of the work experience needs to be approved by the Missouri Committee by submitting a supervision plan for approval.

Step Three:

An applicant can take the Examination in Marital and Family Therapy administered by the Association of Marital and Family Regulatory Boards any time after earning an approved masters degree program.

Step Four:

Next, you will need to request a Missouri marriage and family therapy license application packet from the Missouri Committee for Marital and Family Therapists. Once you have received the application, you will need to complete the application and submit it to the Committee along with all other supporting documents and fees.

The Committee will then review your application and notify you of your Missouri MFT licensure status.
