Below are basic guidelines for those wishing to earn their marriage and family therapist licensure in Nebraska. These procedures rarely change; however, it is wise to contact the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services at (402) 471-2117 to make sure you are on the right track.
Follow these steps to earn your Nebraska MFT License:
Step One:
Complete a Master’s or Doctoral degree program in Marriage and Family Therapy approved by the board or a graduate degree program determined by the Board to be related to MFT.
- Capella University - Master's of Science in Human Services (HS) - Marital, Couple, and Family Counsel/Therapy
- Grand Canyon University - Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy
- Liberty University - Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy
- Saybrook Graduate School - Master's in Psychology (Marriage and Family Therapy specialization)

Step Two:
Complete 3000 hours of experience in MFT under the supervision of a qualified supervisor. You will find detailed explanations of hourly requirements on the document 172 NAC 94-005.05, downloadable from the following page.
Step Three:
Next, you will want to pass the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatry Boards (AMFTRB) Examination.

Step Four:
Finally, you will want to download and complete the Nebraska marriage and family therapy license application and then submit the application along with all other necessary documents and associated application fees to the Nebraska Division of Public Health - Licensure Unit.
