Below are basic guidelines for those wishing to earn their marriage and family therapist licensure in Vermont. These procedures rarely change; however, it is wise to contact the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation at (802)-828-2390 to make sure you are on the right track.
Follow these steps to earn your Vermont MFT License:
Step One:
To begin with, you will need to complete the educational requirements for Vermont Marriage and Family Therapist licensure which are to successfully acquire a master's or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy or a related field that is offered through an accredited institution and is also accepted by the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation. - Grand Canyon University - Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy
- Liberty University - Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy
- Saybrook Graduate School - Master's in Psychology (Marriage and Family Therapy specialization)

Step Two:
Once your education requirements have been met, Vermont Allied Mental Health Practitioner's Board recommends you to complete and submit a Vermont Marriage and Family Therapist licensure application.Be sure to include all necessary forms and application fees as indicated on the application.

Step Three:
The Board will review your application and once approved, you will be eligible to sit for the national Examination in Marital and Family Therapy. Information about the exam can be found on the AMFTRB website.
Step Four:
After receiving your degree, you will need to earn 3000 hours of supervised work experience over a period of at least a 2 years. More details about experience requirements and necessary supervisor qualifications are available on the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation's website.
