Steps to Earn Your New York MFT License:
To practice as a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of New York, you will need to acquire a masters level education in marriage and family therapy from an accredited school.
You will need to complete 1500 hours of supervised work experience. Depending on the type of degree you received, you can either begin the work experience before receiving your degree or after.

Now you will need to download the New York Marriage and Famly Therapy license application and submit the application along with all other supporting documents and fees to the New York State Education Department.

Once your application has been evaluated and approved by the New York Education Department, you will be notified, along with the Professional Examination Service, that you are eligible to take the Examination in Marital and Family Therapy. You will soon after receive an examination application packet.
